Description
This charming cottage lies amidst the vineyards of the “Can Ràfols dels Caus” winery, which, according to insiders, produces one of the best – if not the best – wine in the Penedés region. The cottage stands alone about 50m from the winery's main building, surrounded by lush, varied vegetation. Thus, guests can enjoy complete privacy and relax in a setting of absolute peace and tranquility. The house is decorated in a simple, yet cosy manner, and many of the original details, such as the dark wooden beams, stone blocks in the floor and thick ancient wooden doors, have been preserved.
The cottage is nestled into a hillside. A large fig tree casts a shadow across the terrace that leads to the entrance. Upon entering, you reach a rustic dining room with an open fireplace and adjacent kitchen (equipped with 2 hot plates, a microwave, toaster, electric kettle, coffee maker). From here you can walk out onto a second terrace with a breathtaking view across the vineyards. This terrace has garden furniture and a BBQ/grill for leisurely outdoor dinners. A short staircase leads to the first bedroom with a double bed and an en-suite bathroom (with a shower, tub and a beautiful view of unspoiled nature). The living room is located on the first floor and furnished with several comfortable sofas (2 of which are sofa beds for groups of up to 6 people), TV and DVD. Another short flight of steps brings you to the second bedroom, which has a double bed and a tiny en-suite bathroom (it has a shower; there is a modern wash basin in the bedroom).
The house was originally built in the 17th century, and its ceiling beams and spacious rooms give it a particularly authentic flair. This is heaven for wine lovers – it is difficult to imagine a better spot to enjoy a glass of exquisite wine than the cottage's terrace with its stunning view onto vineyards and the setting sun. A special tip: the grape harvest takes place in September and this is a particularly interesting time to visit since you can experience firsthand how top-notch wines are produced.

Emplacement: Avinyonet del Penedés
The Can Ràfols dels Caus vineyard is located about 2km from Avinyonet del Penedés and just 5km from Vilafranca del Penedés, the centre of the Penedés wine-producing region, which is home to famous wineries like Torres and cava (Catalan sparkling wine) producers like Codorniu and Freixenet. Although the estate belongs to the Penedés in an administrative sense, it has more in common with the Garraf in terms of geography and climate and is just 15km from the sea as the crow flies. The foundations of the masía (Catalan farmhouse) that now houses the office and the owners' residence date back to the 15th century, and the year 1634 is chiseled into the stone archways. The beautifully restored masía is definitely worth a visit. The new wine cellar, completed in 2008, is an architectural masterpiece featuring state-of-the-art wine producing technology.
Can Ràfols dels Caus is about 2km from Avinyonet del Penedés, where you'll find a few shops and restaurants. Vilafranca del Pendedès offers a wide variety of supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants.
